Women's rights for all

Over the years I have watched in amazement as the different organizations have gained front-page position in the ongoing battle to advance the status of women and protect their right to decide what happens with their bodies. The National Organization for Women (NOW) was a major force from onset. Today #MeToo has gained the spotlight.

I had thought their actions were to benefit all women until it dawned on me that these movements also had an obvious bias. The word bias might be soft-playing their action, or should I say their inaction. There is a certain segment of the female population that has been totally ignored by those who have championed the status of women. I speak here of prostitutes.

Don't these ladies deserve the support of their sisters? For the most part they are forced to work in unsavory circumstances and dangerous conditions. In fact, they are continually harassed and arrested by the police. Should they not be allowed, like all other women of America, to decide what happens to their bodies? I hope that this letter will start a movement to protect those who ply the world's oldest profession.

Of course, this is written with tongue in cheek, but isn't this what so many people in United States of America have been hoping for? America--the place where everyone is free to do anything and everything they want. It may sound like utopia, but it is actually the road to chaos.

By glow of my iPad

When I first learned that my Democrat-Gazette delivery had been discontinued in our village, I felt like another victim of the relentless Corporate Doublethink Forward Forever philosophy that has ripped away so many of my little treats.

As a certified ancient party of one, I still miss Danish Dessert, Wheat Hearts cereal, the veggie man and his weekly visit down my street ... you know the drill, sports fans, us codgers and codgerettes are getting cranky.

Having to read my daily paper on a dinky screen (sitting in comfy chair with morning coffee, what a punishment) and ... say, wait a minute. My weekly trash isn't freighted down with dead tree debris; electronic news leaveth no trash. I can whip from obituary to sports to letters with a tap-tap and no shuffles and folding. Oh yes, and I won't have to rush out to the front lawn in the dusky dark of winter and freeze my, er, off.

Tap-tap, y'all!

No skin in this fight

I have never met a pro-abortionist; I have met anti-abortionists and people who are pro-choice.

If you are opposed to abortion, don't have one. If you're a man and you're opposed to abortion, don't ever do anything to a woman that puts her in a position that she has to make that choice.

One sure way to avoid pregnancy--be a man. Tell me what you think about abortion when you get pregnant.

Fan of Judge Parker

To Amy Hall, who wants to get rid of Wumo and the daily horoscope and wants to know if anyone reads Judge Parker anymore: My response (as I have written several times before) is I do. And so do other people I know, and we enjoy discussing all aspects of this strip.

If it is not your thing, then don't read it, but leave it alone for us longtime readers.

Think about support

Is it fair that all of the women that support abortion have already been born? What about the unborn? Shouldn't they have a say-so in this matter? They are living, breathing souls, aren't they?

All of the women that support abortion, what would have happened if your mothers had decided to abort you? You need to think about that!

The proper response

To all our representatives and senators and other fellow travelers, the only proper response to Russian meddling in our elections is "I'm mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore." I did not hear this from any of you, but sadly Arkansans will re-elect all these spineless clowns.

So it goes; we always get the government we deserve.

It's a poor deflection

Deflection psychology is fairly common behavior by most people when the accusatory finger is pointed at them. Justifying misdeeds has become an art in politics today. With the Russian collusion investigation and some resulting indictments, browsing Facebook reveals great effort to deflect this misconduct. Ghosts from the past (the Clintons and Obama, usually) are dug up to compare their misdeeds with current White House inhabitants. When there are no actual incidents, the writer makes up claims like Trump is just enforcing Obama rules by separating illegal immigrants from their children.

This type of excuse will not fly in a court of law, nor did it fly with my parents. "Sister did it too" never mitigated my infraction.

It is both irritating and laughable to see immoral, corruptible and potentially illegal behavior justified by partisans who say X did it too. If this country wants to be "great again," let's find the moral fiber to make it happen.

Waste of our money

What a waste of taxpayer dollars, indicting Russian military officers who will never come to the United States to be arrested, let alone tried and convicted.

The attorneys on the government payroll should be spending their time on ferreting out, indicting and convicting drug and other gang lords, white collar criminals, etc., than wasting time on indicting foreign intelligence operatives.

We all know Russia, Red China, and many others are constantly hacking away at our systems trying to disrupt what they can, be it politics, the economy, or our way of life, etc.

It would be like Russia indicting our NSA and our current and former fellow Army intelligence officers.

A waste of time, money and effort.
