Central Arkansas bicyclist struck by car dies weeks later from injuries

A Lonoke man on a bicycle who was struck by a passing car in North Little Rock last month died this week as a result of his injuries.

Eric Starnes, 54, was riding on June 18 on Arkansas 365 when a passing vehicle struck the rear tire of his bicycle, according to an accident report.

Officers reported that Starnes had abrasions on his head and right arm and that an ambulance transported him to the Baptist Springhill emergency room. Starnes was conscious and able to tell officers that a vehicle had struck his bike, but could not provide any details about the vehicle, the report said.

Starnes died almost a month later, according to a police report.

Officers requested video footage of the accident from multiple nearby businesses, but were told the footage had since been deleted at most locations. One video from a nearby insurance agency shows a man walking beside a bike at the time of the incident but does not show the accident, police reported.

One witness remembered the incident, but could only recall that the suspected vehicle was a four-door car.

Officers investigating the incident said in a report that the bicycle, which was stored in the department's property room, showed no sign of having been struck by a car.
