Risenhoover inks with Southwest Baptist

Rogers High's Grace Risenhoover signed a letter of intent to run track at Southwest Baptist in a ceremony Tuesday in the commons area.

The senior finished third in the 400 meters at the Class 7A state outdoor meet and also anchored the state champion mile relay team to help the Lady Mounties finish as state runner-up. She also broke a 21-year old school record in the 400 and helped the relay team also set a school record.

Lady Mounties coach Becky Efurd said the day before the state meet she spoke with the team about moving Risenhoover from lead-off to anchor leg and it worked like a charm.

"When went in the 4x4, I told the girls 'we're two points behind Fayetteville, so if we're gonna beat them and be runner-up at state we've gotta beat them by more than one place," Efurd said. "Grace was so confident that day, she said 'Don't worry Miss Efurd, we've got you.' and they did.

"They went into that anchor even, but the Bryant girl made a push on that last homestretch, but Grace ended up beating her by two seconds. She had a tremendous season and a tremendous finish."
