National Weather Service confirms 2 tornadoes touched down in Arkansas

Two tornadoes uprooted trees and damaged property when they touched down Tuesday in Northwest Arkansas, National Weather Service surveyors said.

Meteorologists said the first dropped just south of Interstate 40 in Johnson County at 3:38 p.m. and lasted about a minute. During that time, the EF-0 tornado uprooted trees along County Road 3010 and ripped a piece of roofing from a shed with its 85 mph winds.

The second twister, a weak EF-1, developed just north of the interstate and traveled a little more than 1 mile over three minutes, according to the weather service. Wind speeds of 95 mph were reported.

The tornadoes formed from a thunderstorm that developed along the border between Johnson and Franklin counties and moved northeast through western Johnson County, meteorologists said.

TULSA — The National Weather Service in Tulsa is investigating reports of multiple tornadoes in northeastern Oklahoma and northwestern Arkansas.

Tulsa meteorologist Joe Sellers said Wednesday there were several reports Tuesday of weak twisters in Rogers, Sequoyah and Wagoner counties in Oklahoma. Sellers said an investigator was working Wednesday to confirm the reports, determine the amount of damage and rate the intensity of the possible tornadoes.

Sellers said early indications are that damage is minor with tree limbs downed and shingles blown off roofs. There have been no reports of injuries.

In Little Rock, officials say a confirmed tornado touched down mid-afternoon Tuesday on the border of Franklin and Johnson counties, causing minor tree damage.

Severe thunderstorms with strong winds also rolled through central Oklahoma on Tuesday, flipping parked vehicles and causing more than 3,000 power outages.
