North Little Rock police name man who was shot in face; witness says shooter accidentally pulled trigger

North Little Rock police have identified a 24-year-old man who was shot in the face at an apartment Friday afternoon.

According to a report from the city's Police Department, an officer on an unrelated call at Eastgate Terrace Apartments was told about 3:30 p.m. that day that someone had "accidentally been shot" at a residence.

When he arrived, the officer found Cedric Antwone Newman of North Little Rock wounded and lying on the bed, the report states.

A resident of the apartment told authorities that an acquaintance she knew as "Curtis" had grabbed a gun from underneath a pillow on the bed but had accidentally pulled the trigger, and the bullet struck Newman in the face.

The shooter then fled, according to police.

Newman, who was said to be conscious and alert, was taken to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock for treatment.

No suspects were named and no arrests had been made at the time of the report.
