Gayble Young Moss of Texarkana, Texas, age 7, died Friday, June 11, 2010 in the tragic flood at Albert Pike Campgrounds, Caddo Gap, Ark. She is survived by her parents, Swan Burrus Moss III and Gay Cunningham Moss; a brother, Swan Burrus Moss IV. Born Sept. 2, 2002 in Little Rock, Ark., Gayble had just completed the first grade at St. James Day School in Texarkana. Gayble is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Karen Cunningham Green and husband, Ricky of Hot Springs, Ark., and her grandfather, Patrick Ray Cunningham of Tulsa, Okla. Her paternal grandparents are Swan Burrus Moss Jr. and Janet Dennington Moss of Dermott, Ark. She will also be greatly missed by her aunts and uncles, Raymond Dennington Moss and wife Allison Landers Moss and cousins Landers, Ella and Hadley of Greenville, Miss. and Christopher Ray Cunningham and wife Nicole Schafer Cunningham, parents of cousins, Caroline and Schafer of Charlotte, N.C.. At school, Gayble was known for her sunny smile, her desire to help anyone and everyone who needed help and also for her fun and impish personality. She especially loved to boss her big brother around. Her first grade teacher described Gayble as "determined"—and that she was! She loved her recent trip to New York with her family and was always looking forward to the next adventure. One such adventure she talked about with gleeful anticipation was the weekend camping trip that ended in tragedy. Gayble left us in late spring of the year and the much too early spring of her life. She will forever remain in our minds as the flaxen-haired child with the mischievous smile and twinkle in her eyes who flitted among us as a beautiful butterfly we knew and loved. A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam And for a brief moment its glory and beauty belong to our world But then it flies again And though we wish it could have stayed… We feel lucky to have seen it. Unknown The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Foyer of First Baptist Church. Services for Gayble Young Moss will be held at First Baptist Church, Moore's Lane on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 4 p.m. with Rev. Larry Sims officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to St. James Day School: Gayble Moss Memorial Fund. Visit on line at www.texarkanafuneralhome.com.
