John H. Rogers

Major John H. Rogers USAF (Ret), 88, formerly a resident of Sherwood, Ark., passed away Sept. 30, 2010. He was a 1939 graduate of Sparta High School, Sparta, Mo. Major Rogers retired from the Air Force in February 1982. He served the Air Force for 40 years, spanning many operations, including service in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and the occupation of Japan following the war. He served as a B24 and B26 pilot. He had been a Road Foreman of Engines for the Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads. Major Rogers was a member of the Scottish Rite, Order of the Eastern Star, 32nd Degree Mason. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie E. Rogers in 1995. Survivors include a son, Micheal Rogers of Liberty, Mo.; brothers and their wives, Pletcher and Bonnie Rogers and Charles and Wilma Rogers, all of Sparta, Mo.; sisters and their husbands, Arlene Goins of Groveland, Ill., Vivion and Glen Johns of Springfield, Mo., Susie and I.J. Johns of Sparta, Mo., and Pauline Ryals of Morton, Ill. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010 at the Liberty United Methodist Church, 1001 Sunset Street, Liberty, Mo. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6-8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 4, 2010 at the Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home. Interment will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010 in the White Chapel Cemetery, Springfield, Mo. Military honors will be rendered by members of Whiteman AFB, Missouri. The family suggest memorial contributions be sent to the Liberty Lions Club or the Liberty Kiwanis Club, c/o the funeral home.
