Walter Richard Bass, M.D.

Walter R. Bass, M.D., of Raytown, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010. Walter was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he attended and graduated from the Little Rock public schools. He went on to attend the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and the University of Arkansas Medical School. Walter was an Ophthalmologist serving the Raytown area for his entire 40 year career. He was a member of the Raytown Christian Church and several choirs, including the Kansas City Metro Men's Choir, Raytown Christian Church Choir and the Raytown Community Choir. Walter was an avid motorcycle rider and lifelong member of the American Motorcycle Association as well as the National BMW Motorcycle Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter & Mildred (Walker) Bass; a brother, Robert Woods Bass; and son, David Turner Bass. He is survived by his wife Suzi (Reynolds) Bass, Children Walter R. Bass III, Charles (Jill) Bass, Mary E. Bass; grandchildren Phoebe, Mary Claire, Katie, Maya, Edie; a sister, Anne Fulk and brothers, Cooper Bass, Claibourne Bass and Hugh Bass. Walter was a lifelong scholar who lived his life with humility and grace, a celebration of that life will be held Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the Raytown Christian Church, at 6 p.m. with a reception to follow at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Walter R. Bass Memorial c/o Raytown Christian Church, 6108 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, Missouri 64133.
