Robert J. Walkney Sr.

Robert J. Walkney Sr., 82, of Elmhurst passed away on Oct. 5, 2010 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. Mr. Walkney was born July 6, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pa. to William and Beatrice nee Critchlow Walkney. Robert spent his life serving his country; He was a WWII United States Air Force veteran. After retiring from the Air Force he started a new career with as a field director for the Red Cross providing service to military personnel and their family here in the States, Viet Nam and Thailand. He continued his serve his fellow service men for Disabled American Veterans where in Little Rock, Ark he became a State Commander. He was a beloved husband of the late Jeanette Celine nee Bartlett and Eleanor Gertrude nee Frei; loving father of Robert J. Walkney Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M., Patricia ( John) Bleazard of Kalispell, Mont., Catherine (Robert) Aurand of Elmhurst, Ill., Jane (Arthur) Shingledecker of S. Milwaukee, Wis.; step-father of Grover Walter and Garett Penley of Chapel Hill, N.C. and Gregg Penley of Costa Rica; proud grandfather of Christy Celine (Patrick) Mc Laughlin, Elizabeth Aurand, Kerrie (Mathew) Rausch, Nathan Shingledecker (Ashley Wagner), Eleanor Penley and Garett Penely; great-grandfather of Patrick, Kieran, Keanan, Killian, Quinn, Cason, and Owen.
