Charles R. Lowery

Charles R. Lowery, 83, of Yellville, passed away at his home on Oct. 8, 2010. Charles was born March 20, 1927, in Toccoa, Ga., to Bart and Eunice Lowery. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hilda Lowery; and his grandsons, Jonathan and David Zomchek. Survivors include his wife, Lowetta Lowery of the home; children, Cheryl Lowery of Marlinton, W. Va., Steven Lowery of Walnut Creek, Calif., Robert Lowery (Jodi) of West Richard, Wash., Edwin Kaawa (Winona) of Hoolehua, Hawaii, Norm Hagar of Yellville, Ark., Tammy Stumbaugh (Stewart) of Yellville, Ark.; brothers, James Lowery of Milton, Fla., John Lowery of Beverton, Ore., Joe Lowery of Elfrida, Ariz., Jack Lowery of Angelton, Texas, David Lowery of Martin, Ga.; sisters, Lilly West of Ozark, Ala., Lula Lunsford of Carnesville, Ga.; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; mother-in-law Marie Spencer. Charles was a proud American. He was a WWII and Korean War veteran. He served two years in the Navy and retired from the Air Force after 21 years of service. Charles was many things: kind-hearted, intelligent, wise, hard working, a great teacher and a wonderful grandpa who was always ready to share a bag of M&M's. He was a very caring and nurturing father, whose favorite quote was, "Everyday is supposed to be better than the day before." Charles was loved by many and will be deeply missed. The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at the Conner-Hankins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jonathan Belew and Rev. Bobby Spencer officiating. Burial will be in the Little Rock National Cemetery at Little Rock under the direction of Conner-Hankins Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Steven Lowery, Robert Lowery, Edwin Kaawa, Joe Lowery, Stewart Stumbaugh and Bodie Phillips. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010.
