Jean Franks Harkey, 86, passed away Tuesday, October 12th, 2010. She was born February 7th, 1924 to Lewis and Irene Franks in Holly Grove, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband James Thomas; husband Roscoe Leigh Harkey, Jr.; sister, Jimmie Franks Jackson; brother, William Franks and sister-in-law, Selma Harkey Ratley. She is survived by son, Batson Harkey and his wife Jane; daughter, Leigh Harkey; two grandsons Zach and Josh Sanford; nieces, Becky Cooper, Robin Smith and Mary Jane Barringer; nephews, John Jackson, Jim Jackson, Ricky Ratley and Tommy Franks and a host of extended family and friends, all who will miss her dearly. Jean was a long time active member of First United Methodist Church and the Faulkner Sunday School Class. For fun, she loved to read, play bridge and travel with her friends to Mt. Nebo. She had a kind and gentle nature and an optimistic outlook on life. Jean's legacy was teaching the joy and love of reading to countless children. She was the co-founder of Miss Selma's Elementary School where she taught first grade for over 30 years. Graveside services will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 14th, 2010 with Reverend Jim Foster officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 723 Center Street, Little Rock, Arkansas 72201 and Friends of Miss Selma's Foundation, Inc. 7814 T Street, Little Rock, Arkansas 72227.
