Ellon Evell Vaughn

Ellon Evell Vaughn, age 79, of Lake Village, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at Chicot Memorial Medical Center in Lake Village after a lengthy illness. He was born June 5, 1931, in Bay, Arkansas, the son of the late Boss Vaughn and Eva Brown Vaughn and was a member of Lake Village Baptist Church. He farmed for 56 years, beginning around Lepanto, Arkansas, moving to Jonesville, Louisiana, in 1968, and moving to Lake Village in 1975. Although he had retired 5 years ago, he never stopped "making a crop". He continued to teach his children and grandchildren about farming, being known for the phrase, "I'm not going to tell you what to do, but if it were me—". When asked if he was ready to go, he said quickly and profoundly, "yes" and asked "are you?' He was preceded in death by his parents, Eva and Boss Vaughn, a daughter, Vickie Ann Vaughn, and by five brothers, Willard, Hoyt, Vance, Jimmy and Dean Vaughn. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean Kelley Vaughn of Lake Village; two sons, David and Larry Vaughn of Lake Village; two sisters, Nell Osman and Betty Sue Vaughn; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Bishop Funeral Home. Funeral services are at 10 a.m., Friday, October 15, 2010, at Bishop Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mike Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Lake Village Cemetery under the direction of Bishop Funeral Home of Lake Village.
