Dwight Wilson Gray

Dr. Dwight Wilson "Doc" Gray of Marianna passed from this life on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 in Jonesboro, Arkansas at the age of 86. Doc was born on July 15, 1924 in Woolly Hollow (near Greenbrier, Arkansas) to the late Marvin Gray and Hattie Wilson Gray. He served in the US Navy during WWII; and later graduated from Medical School at the University of Arkansas. Doc practiced medicine in Marianna for over thirty years, delivering many babies, and making house calls throughout the county. He loved to tell stories about the early years of his practice, often entertaining his friends and family. He loved to fish, enjoyed gardening and sharing his tomatoes with all his friends. He especially loved his grandchildren, spending time with them at every available opportunity. He was an active member of First Christian Church, where he was deeply loved, and he was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. Loved ones surviving him are daughters, Peggy St. John of West Memphis, Ark.; and Judy Meinecke of Hot Springs, Ark.; son, Danny Henderson of Letohatchee, Ala.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sons, Mike Gray of Cabot, Ark., Jim Gray of Greenbrier, Ark., and Steve Gray of Marion, Ark. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Alpha, three brothers and one son, David Gray. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 15 at First Baptist Church in Marianna; burial following in Marianna Memorial Park.
