Jane Tullous

Jane Tullous, 86, of Hot Springs, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 13, 2010. Jane was born April 24, 1924 in Winona, Mississippi to Janey Ruth and Otis Lyle Stafford. She was the eldest of three children. Jane spent her school years in Dumas enjoying choir and cheerleading. After graduating from Dumas High School as the Valedictorian, she moved to Pine Bluff and married O.B. Tullous on May 14, 1943. Jane worked at Ben Pearson Company and the Pine Bluff Arsenal before having children. She stayed at home to raise her two children, Tommy Tullous and Leigh Tullous Spann. When the youngest went to grade school, Jane followed her heart and went to college at Arkansas A&M, now UAM, and graduated Magna Cum Laud with honors and a teaching degree. She immediately went to work at White Hall School teaching the sixth, ninth, and twelfth grades. She retired as the Chair of the high school English Department. In retirement she enjoyed spending time with her grandson, Brandon Scaife, doing yard work, and reading. She was a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff and when she moved to Hot Springs in April of 2000 she joined First United Methodist where she was active in Sunday School and Circle. She thoroughly enjoyed the times she was in charge of the program for her Circle. She also was known to pen a poem and present it at Country Club Village, to display her affection and respect for some of the managers. She loved assisting Leigh in buying, remodeling, and building various properties in Pine Bluff and Hot Springs Jane was predeceased by her husband, O.B., but is survived by her two children, Tommy Tullous of Little Rock and Leigh Spann and husband Creed of Hot Springs, grandsons, Brandon Scaife and wife Tammy of Maumelle and Tommy Tullous, Jr. of Dallas, Texas; great- grandson, Caden Scaife and brothers, Otis Lyle Stafford and wife Maryanne of Maumelle and Gene Stafford and wife Hilda of Pine Bluff. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel. Contributions may be made to Garland County Library, First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs, or Arkansas Hospice.
