John Wilson Swicegood went to be with the Lord in Heaven on October 10, 2010. He was born March 11, 1930 at his home in North Little Rock to Isaac and Lottie Mae Swicegood. John served his country in the United States Navy, was a member of the VFW in North Little Rock Post 11474, the Elks Lodge #1004 and was of the Baptist faith. He owned and ran J.W. Swicegood Construction Company, Inc. for 42 years until his retirement in 2009. While in the U.S. Navy, he began boxing and was an avid fan of the sport the rest of his life. He loved hunting, fishing, old westerns and adored his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was known by many names-Johnny, John, JW, Mr. John, Mr. Swicegood, Daddy and Pops but his favorite was "My Hero." John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Betty Jo Swicegood; his parents; one brother; and three sisters. He is survived by his son, Tim (Maria) Swicegood; daughter Toni (Mark) Wages; two granddaughters, Amber Vance and Shawna Bowden; two great-grandsons, Wesley and Logan Vance; one great-grandchild on the way; three sisters, Ann Sniff, Margie Douglas and Jean Purifoy and numerous other family members. His family and friends will remember him as a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him. Memorials may be made to Multiple Sclerosis National Society of Arkansas, 1100 N. University Ave., Ste. 255, Little Rock, Arkansas 72207. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Monday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Edgewood Memorial Park, with a gathering at the family home afterwards.
