Melba Monnette Mitchell

Melba Monnette Mitchell, age 84, of Lake Village, died Wednesday, October 14, 2010, at her home. She was born August 4, 1926, in Lake Village, the daughter of Leslie Lee Griffin and Guyula Elizabeth Bailey Griffin and was a retired bookkeeper for their lumber company and a member of Lake Village Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, by a son, H. Larry Mitchell and by four brothers, Gilbert, M. Maurice, her twin brother, Duane and Kenneth Griffin and two sisters, Captiola Griffin Dickey and Marie Griffin Champion. Survivors are her husband, Hiram "H.L." Mitchell of Lake Village; two daughters, Lanis Faye Mitchell Strader and Claudia Dee Bunker and her husband, Bill, of Lake Village; a daughter-in-law, Diane Mitchell of Alexander; a sister, Joan Byerly and her husband, Roger, of Lake Village; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons. Visitation will be Saturday, October 23, 2010, at 1 to 2 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m. at Bishop Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Village. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital or Arkansas Childrens Hospital.
