Richard Thomas Dean

Richard Thomas Dean, known to most people as "Dick," was born June 22, 1944, in St. Louis, Mo., to Lawrence Linden and Margaret Charlotte Seeburger Dean. He died at his home in Searcy, Oct. 20, 2010, after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was 66. Dick is survived by his wife, Retta Martin Dean, of the home; a daughter, Leigh Ashlie Galyan, and her husband, Jim, of Searcy; a son, Kent Richard Dean, of Ft. Worth, Texas; a granddaughter, Larke Elizabeth Ayres Galyan, a student at Texas Christian University; and a brother, Christopher A. Dean, of Branson West, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lawrence Charles Dean. Dick spent most of his adulthood as a football coach/teacher or apartment owner/manager. He and Retta had been married almost 45 years. He was a member of the College church of Christ. Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 23, from noon to 2 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m., at the College church. Dr. Clifton L. Ganus Jr., who performed the wedding ceremony for Dick and Retta, called Dick "a friend and a trustworthy servant of God." His lifelong friend, Harold Valentine, said, "His truly servant attitude and way of life were cherished by all with whom he came in contact."
