Glenn J. Clay

Glenn J. Clay, 88, of Searcy, died Monday, October 25, 2010. He was born November 16, 1921, at Romance, AR, the first born son of Homer and Tellie (Vardell) Clay. He served in the US Army Military Police. At the end of World War II he returned to Searcy, where he was a Deputy US Marshall. Later he became a member of the Searcy Police Dept., he then went to work for Adams Pest Control, where he was a Service Representative until retirement. A lifelong Baptist, he was a member of the First Baptist Church, in Searcy, where he was an Usher. Glenn was a volunteer for Good Samaritan Industries, active in Kiwanis and other civic organizations in the community. He was a member of the Senior Golf Association, at River Oaks Golf Club. Glenn is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Anna Mae (Adams) Clay; one daughter, Anna Lynn Vernon; and one sister, Wilma Holeman. Glenn is survived by his wife, Sibyl (Hays) Clay; one daughter, Glenna Clay MacGrotty and her husband, Stephen, of New York, N.Y.; son-in-law, Rusty Vernon; grandsons, Adam and Jacob, of Richmond, VA; four brothers, Kenneth Clay (Pat), Howell Clay (Barbara), Darrell Clay (Thelma), all of Searcy, and Billy Clay (Allison) of Savannah, Ga.; and three sisters, Audrey Joyce (Freddie), Allene Showalter, and Lucille Carter, all of Searcy. The family will greet guests at 12:30p.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2010, in the foyer of the First Baptist Church, with the service to follow at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the Gum Springs Cemetery.
