Mr. James H. Scoggins, age 72, resident of Columbia, passed away Monday, October 25, 2010 at his residence following a brief illness. Funeral services for Mr. Scoggins will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2010 in the chapel of the Williams Funeral Home of Columbia with Bro. J.B. Evans officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour prior to service on Thursday at the funeral home. James was born on June 1, 1938 in Ragland, Alabama, he was the son of the late Brown Singleton and Mattie L. Scott Scoggins. He was the devoted husband of Norma Jean Burks Scoggins of Columbia. They were married for 52 years. He was a 1956 graduate of Lakeside High School in Hot Springs, Ark. James was a member of the Arkansas National Guard and Reserves. He attended the Henderson State University. He was a Senior Customer Engineer for 40 years with IBM, receiving several Service Means Awards. James was the owner of Scoggins and Scoggins, Inc. He was a troop leader for Cub Scouts and involved in youth football. James was of the Southern Baptist Faith. He was a devoted Father and Grandfather. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Denette (Randy W.) Pennington of Franklin and Dana S. Ross of Clifton; two sons, Duane H. (Gay) Scoggins of Plano, Texas and Darren J. Scoggins of Columbia; two sisters, Linda (Jimmy) Barrett of Hot Springs, Ark. and Marilyn (Larry) Doolittle of Starkville, Miss.; two brothers, Jeff Scoggins of Little Rock, Ark. and Steve (Tammy) Scoggins of Hot Springs, Ark.; six grandchildren, Derek R. Pennington, Whitney Marie Pennington and Robert Foster, Amanda N. (Mark) Kucker, Taylor C. Holder, Zachary S. Holder and J. Yeiser Ross, II; three great-grandchildren, Alexis Scoggins, Caleb Scoggins and Mark Kucker; and special family members, Capt. Jason Beck currently on active duty in Afghanistan, wife Jennifer and their two children Carter and Lydia. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be R.V. Oliver, Capt. Jason Beck, Dan Wood, Don Davis, LaVaughn Davis, Donnie Kilgore and the 1956 Graduating Class of Lakeside High School.
