Jerry Harper Cole

Jerry Harper Cole, 79, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, formerly of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died Wednesday. He was born July 22, 1931 in Sheridan, son of Charles W. and Kate Harper Cole. Mr. Cole was reared and received his early education in Malvern, graduating from Malvern High School. He graduated from pharmacy school at the College of the Ozarks in Clarksville and earned his bachelor's from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He owned and operated Oak Park Drugs in Pine Bluff from 1957 until 2001. Mr. Cole received an award from the Arkansas Pharmacists Association for serving 50 years as a pharmacist. Mr. Cole was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Pine Bluff. He was a member and past president of the Arkansas Thoroughbred Breeder's Association. Mr. Cole owned and operated Colehurst Farm, along with his wife Jayne, where they successfully bred Thoroughbred racehorses. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Harper Cole; parents; and sister, Jane Maynard. Survivors: wife, Jayne Cole, whom he married June 27, 1954 in Malvern; daughter, Kim Cole Donaldson of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; grandson, Charles Dalton Cole of Little Rock; and two great-grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m., Monday, November 1, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church in Pine Bluff. Burial: Philadelphia Cemetery near Prattsville by Robinson's.
