Elizabeth Bette Phillips

Elizabeth "Bette" Phillips, 87, of Newport died Monday. She was born February 9, 1924 at Donnellson, Iowa, the daughter of Clinton and Mary (Schock) Clemons. Miss Clemons married Mr. William S. Phillips 66 years ago at the Army Airbase Chapel in Miami, Florida on September 9, 1945. Mrs. Phillips was a homemaker, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She received a Business degree at Quincy Business College, and was a Coast Guard veteran, serving in World War II. She enjoyed golfing, basketball, and spending time with her family. Survivors: her husband of sixty-six years, William S. Phillips; son, Bill Phillips and wife Tammy of Selmer, Tennessee; daughter, Mary Lou Delcase and husband Ron of Newport; brother, Jack Clemons and wife Eilene of Donnellson, Iowa; sister-in-law, Carol Phillips of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Ashley Kieffer and husband Britt, Ronnie Delcase and wife Lisa, Trey Tatum, Jennifer Abouzenad and husband Shareif, and Cody Phillips; great-granddaughter, Isabella Delcase; nieces and nephews. Graveside services are 1 p.m., Wednesday at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 4th and Main, Newport, AR 72112 or the W.A.
