DALE EDWARD BEHMER, 80, of Little Rock passed away May 3, 2011. He was born June 24, 1930 in Hoskins, Neb. to the late Arthur and Martha Buss Behmer. Mr. Behmer is also preceded in death by a brother, Gene Behmer, and a sister, Vonnie Suhr. Mr. Behmer proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Air Force where he was a fighter pilot and was among the first group to fly the, now famous, F- 86 jet fighter. He later served in the Air National Guard, where he retired as Major after 30 years of service. He also received his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin in Agronomy. He worked for U.S. Steel for many years and later began his own landscaping and design company. Mr. Behmer has been an active member of the Lutheran Church serving in a variety of positions and will be remembered for his gardening skills and for being a John Deere enthusiast. He was a master gardener and a member of the Conway Men's Chorus. Surviving relatives include his loving wife Arlene; children, Chris Behmer and wife Kristin of Batavia, Ill., Karen Magee and husband Jim of Riverside, Ill., Spence Behmer and wife Naomi of College Station, Texas., Katie Miller and husband Keith of Lincoln, Neb., and Carmen Lipschultz and husband Tyler of San Diego, Calif.; step-children, Greg Robertson and wife Ellen of Raleigh, N.C., and Mari Flemmons and husband Kenn of Little Rock, Ark., grandchildren; Kirk, Courtney and Taylor Behmer, Daniel and Rachel Magee, Robert and Freddy Behmer, Olivia, Sophie, Caroline and Jackson Miller and Cameron Lipschultz; step-grandchildren, Erin and Lindsey Brasher and Geoffrey Flemmons. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2011 at Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church, Maumelle, Ark. with Pastor Paul Mayerhoff officiating. Interment will follow in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
