Imogene A. "Jean" Sterne, a former resident of Little Rock, North Little Rock and Jacksonville for more than 40 years, died Monday, May 2, 2011. She was 86. Jean was born in Winchester, Ark., to the late S.O. and Verdie Abston. Jean was also preceded in death by her husband, Charlie R. Sterne, as well as two sisters and a brother. She worked for the Veterans Administration for more than 30 years. She was a long-time, faithful member of the Jacksonville First United Methodist Church and active in the Extension Club, AARP and NARFE. She was a devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Survivors include her daughters, Janet Varnier of Amelia, Va., Charlene Wallace (and son-in-law John Wallace) of Colleyville, Texas; sisters, Maxine Bucans of Thayne, Wyo., Marilou Douglas of Tillar, Ark., and Martha Culhane of Tucson, Ariz.; granddaughters, Emily Wallace of Bryan, Texas, Laura Wallace Bull (and husband Gary Bull) of Brownwood, Texas; three great-grandsons, Nathan, Grant and Joshua Bull; and longtime caregiver and friend, Vicki Jackson Russell of Keller, Texas. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, May 9, 2011 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Jacksonville First United Methodist Church or the National Parkinson Foundation.
