Philip Ernest Davis, affectionately known as "Uncle Phil", died on Tuesday, the 10th of May 2011. He was born on the 4th of December 1941, in Bauxite, Arkansas, one of 6 children. Phil attended Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He moved to Dallas in 1961, and soon began a successful insurance sales career with Mutual of New York Life Insurance Company. His success led him to Houston, where he was recognized as the youngest Sales Manager in the MONY organization. Phil was a CLU and a top producing manager for MONY. He received numerous awards including the President's Round Table, Toppers Award, GAMA and was recognized by the CLU Chapter for industry and community service. Phil spent many years pursuing his love of travel and culinary adventures. He was a lifetime member of the Salt Grass Trail Ride Wagon 8 and a lifetime Committeeman of the HLSR Calf Scramble Committee and a founding member of the Rancher's Ride Organization in Welcome, Texas. For many years, Phil was an active member of the Houston Racquet Club where he served on the Board of Directors. Phil and his wife Cindy moved to New Ulm in 2007 to fulfill their dream of living in the country. He was happiest spending time with his grandchildren fishing off the pier, listening to his IPOD full of New Orleans Jazz, Dixieland and Country Western Music and sharing embellished stories of his past. Phil was preceded in death by his son, Dain Jeffries Davis; and his mother, Marcena May Davis. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Cynthia Hall Davis; daughter, Donya Rhea Davis; and grandchildren, Alexandra Riley and Austin McLaren Jones; his father, Fred Earnest Davis and wife Lorene; brothers, Larry Davis and wife Vicki, JD Cockrum and wife Betsy, Leonard Cockrum and wife Betty; sisters, Kathy Carlisle and husband Bruce, Madolyn Wiley; and many nieces and nephews. A man who never met a stranger, Phil will be remembered for his sense of humor, his story telling and his positive outlook on life. He will truly be missed by everyone who knew him. The family would like to express their gratitude to the team of doctors and nursing staff at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital for all of the love and care provided to Phil over the last 6 years. Friends are cordially invited to visitation with the family from five o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening on Thursday, the 12th of May, at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. The funeral service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 13th of May, in the sanctuary of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 3741 Westheimer Road in Houston, where the Rev. Peter Miller, Pastor of Caring Ministries, is to officiate. The interment is to follow, via an escorted cortege, at Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery in Houston. Honored to serve as casket bearers during the services are Kyle Cockrum, Robert Davis, David Carlisle, Travis Hallmark, Mitchell Hallmark, Bennett Hall and Mitch Davis. In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in memory of Phil may be directed to Friends of Austin County, (a non-profit organization co-founded by Phil to fund scholarships for the kids of Austin County Fair), C/O Industry Bank, P.O.
