Neva Mae Gilliam Carter

Neva Mae Gilliam Carter passed away on the morning of Wednesday, May 11, 2011. She was born in Monticello on July 12, 1920 to Albert Gilliam and Ida Sue Burks Gilliam. She is preceded in death by Robert Edward Carter, her husband of 69 years, as well as all seven of her brothers and sisters. Mrs. Carter served as the treasurer of American Sheet Metal for over fifty years. She was a member of the 40th and Hazel Street Church of Christ where she faithfully attended until her health began to fail. Even then, her dear friends encouraged her through her remaining days. Mrs. Carter enjoyed working in the yard, visiting with family and friends, and telling stories about days gone by. Survivors include her three sons: Max Carter and wife, Jackie, of Oakton, Virginia, Charles Carter and wife, Karen, of Maumelle, and Keith Carter and wife, Rachel, of Pine Bluff. She also leaves five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be conducted from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2011 at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home located at 943 Highway 425 North, in Monticello. A graveside service will be conducted at the Union Ridge Cemetery in Monticello at 11 a.m. on the following day. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the benevolence fund of the 40th and Hazel Street Church of Christ in Pine Bluff, in keeping with Mrs. Carter's wishes.
