Cleo Jaggars Howard, 101 of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, May 14, 2011 at home. She was born November 22, 1909 in Draughn (Cleveland County), Arkansas, daughter of the late Tom Wilson Jaggars and Eva Ward Jaggars. Mrs. Howard was reared and received her early education in Fordyce and Pine Bluff. Her family moved to Pine Bluff in 1922 and she graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1928. She was employed as a secretary/bookkeeper for over 30 years, having worked at Jefferson Supply Company, Soltz Machinery and Supply Company, St. Louis Southwest Railway, Pine Bluff Sand and Gravel and at the time of her retirement, she was working at Finkbeiner Company. Mrs. Howard later worked as a secretary at First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Howard was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of United Methodist Women and Wesley Friendship Class. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution She was an active member of the Pilot Club of Pine Bluff, where she served as president in the 1952-1953 year. Because of her civic activities during that year, Mrs. Howard was elected "Woman of the Year" by a city-wide vote sponsored by the Pine Bluff Commercial. She also served District 13 of Pilot International as District Treasurer and District Lt. Governor. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Milton Howard, whom she married December 24, 1939; and a sister, Annie Jaggars Poteet. She is survived by two cousins, Mattie Lou Hall of Hot Springs, and Betty Gaskell of Irvine, California; her adopted family, Brenda (Tollie) Thomas of Pine Bluff, Elita (Kent) McRae of Bonita Springs, Florida and Robert Thomas of Homer, Louisiana. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 18, 2011, 2 p.m., in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson with Reverend Fred Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Robinson's. A special thank you to her caregivers, Kathy Sales, Cheryl Rynders, and Judy Smith.
