I. G. Riley Jr.

Mr. I.G. Riley Jr., 91, of Hamburg, died Sunday, May 15, 2011 at his residence in Hamburg. Mr. Riley was a native of the Berea Community outside of Hamburg and life long resident of Hamburg and the Promise Land Community outside of Hamburg. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II in the Pacific. He worked for Georgia-Pacific Forestry for over 40 years and he was the oldest active member of the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ira G. Sr. & Lula Bell Stanley Riley; three brothers, James Clark (Red), Claude Sr. & Fred Riley and a son-in-law, Arvil Taber. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Higginbotham Riley of Hamburg; three daughters, Martha Jo Taber of Little Rock, Shirley White and husband, Ervin, of Hamburg and Linda Sue Longria and husband, Jose, of Grapevine, Texas; six grandchildren, Stephanie Hill, Teresa Morgan, Ervin White Jr., Melanie Zoernor, Jenny Brancheau and Nick Longria and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Reese and Rev. Trey Emory officiating. Burial will be in the Promise Land Cemetery.
