William L. "Bill" Ahring

William L. "Bill" Ahring, age 83, of North Little Rock, died Tuesday, May 17, after a brief illness. Bill was born in Little Rock to Walter and Louise Ahring. A self-taught musician, he was a timpanist for Arkansas Symphony Orchestra for over two decades and played piano professionally as well. He loved airplanes and flying, earning his pilot's license at age 16. He served as a ground force member of the U.S. Air Force for two years in the Korean War, and served an additional 13 years in the Air National Guard. He also enjoyed a long career in the insurance business. He loved helping others and will be remembered most for his sense of humor and generosity. He is survived by his children, Deborah Ahring (Kris Katrosh) of Fayetteville, Steve Ahring of Little Rock, Julie Shofner (Kirby) of Little Rock, and Tracey Ahring of Dennard; granddaughter, Olivia Palombo, of Little Rock; nephew, Walter Ahring, III (Sherry) of Little Rock; and his church family at NLR First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gertrude Scott; and brother, Walter Ahring, Jr. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday May 20th at NLR First United Methodist Church, 6701 John F.
