Margaret Luann McCarty, 69, long-time resident of West Memphis, Arkansas and Helena, Arkansas passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2011 in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born on November 28, 1941, in New Boston, Texas to the late Thelma and Jerry Thomas. Luann was predeceased by a brother, Jerry Thomas. Luann is survived by her husband, Harry James McCarty, Jr. of Huntsville, Alabama and two sons, Mark Thomas McCarty and wife Jennifer of Little Rock and Dr. Harry James McCarty, III and wife Holly of Huntsville. She is also survived by four much loved grandchildren. Caroline and Harrison of Little Rock and Alex and Evan of Huntsville. Luann also leaves a host of family and friends that she dearly loved. Luann graduated from high school in Helena and graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Luann was a teacher at Humes High School in Memphis, Holy Cross Episcopal School in West Memphis and West Memphis High School. Teaching was Luann's passion. She was loved by her students and fellow teachers. Visitation will be at the First United Methodist Church, 215 North Missouri Street in West Memphis, Arkansas at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 21. A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. at the church.
