JACK PARKIN LYNN, age 81, died Thursday, May 19, 2011. A native of Little Rock, he was the son of the late Louise Parkin and Jack Thomas Lynn and the grandson of the late Minnie V. and J.H. Parkin and Maria and John T. Lynn. His early years were spent in St. Louis, Mo. where his father was associated with the General Life Insurance Company. At the age of 12 he enrolled in The Webb School at Bell Buckle, Tenn. remaining until graduation. He became a staunch supporter of the school, very respectful of its code of ethics and philosophy. The rural setting instilled in him forever a great respect and interest in outdoor life and nature in general. He attended Washington and Lee University and The University of Arkansas, joining the Air Force while still a student. Jack married his first wife, Ann McHenry of El Dorado, Ark., who predeceased him in 1985, and they lived in England during his years in the service. After returning to Little Rock, he joined Parkin Printing and Stationary Company. For the next 16 years he worked in both the labor and management sectors, learning the printing business. During this time he attended The Carnegie Institute of Technology at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and The Kodak School of Lithography. In 1972 he was elected president of the company, succeeding Harry W. Parkin, the president, who became board chairman. Jack served on several boards in the community including First National Bank (now Regions), Arkansas Children's Hospital, The Florence Crittenton Home and The Country Club of Little Rock. He was a member of Westover Hills Presbyterian Church, serving as the church photographer and as a Sunday School teacher with Kaki Hardie. Jack had so many interests in life: sailing, music, water colorist, photography, skiing, fishing, traveling and most of all the game of golf. As well as being an accomplished player (scratch golfer), he also felt strongly about passing on the ideals of the game to those beginning it, as evidenced by his interest in, and volunteer work with The First Tee of Central Arkansas. Survivors include his wife, Jean Wills Lynn; two daughters, Laurie McHenry Tinnell and her husband, Paul Tinnell of Bradenton, Fla., and Lisa Ann Karamallakis and her husband, Theo Karamallakis of Atlanta, Ga.; one son, Stephen Parkin and his wife, Claire Lynn of Denver, Colo.; seven grandchildren, John Clayton Tinnell and his wife, Kim Tinnell, Kevin McHenry and Jennifer Lynn Tinnell, Zachary Panos and Nicole Ann Karamallakis, Anastasia Claire and Jack McHenry Lynn and his sister, Virginia Lynn Boyd of Little Rock. He is also survived by a nephew, Jay Harris and his wife, Nora, along with their children, Patrick and Christopher of Atlanta, Ga.; one step-daughter, Kathleen Chandler and her husband, John Chandler of Jackson, Tenn.; two step-sons, Jay Wills and his wife Elana Wills, and David Andrew Wills, all of Little Rock; three step-granddaughters, Francis and Claire Chandler and Grace Wills. There will be a visitation at Ruebel Funeral Home from 5 to 7 o'clock on the evening of Monday, May 23, 2011. The following morning, Tuesday, May 24, 2011, a graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com. Memorials may be made to The Webb School, P.O. Box 488, Bell Buckle, Tenn. 37020 or to The First Tee of Central Arkansas, 1 First Tee Way, Little Rock, Ark. 72204.
