John Harold White, M.D. of Waynesboro, Va. was called home to be with his Heavenly Father, the 19th of May, 2011. He was a member of the Waynesboro Church of Christ. Dr. White is survived by his wife Joyce Herrald White; his son, John Wesley White; daughter-in-law, Diane; two beloved granddaughters, Diana Lynn and Sarah Elizabeth, all of Pasadena, Texas; one chosen granddaughter, Angelina Engbrock of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Sue Wilson and her husband Morgan of Longview, Texas, Jean Coe of Pearland, Texas, Nadine Moody and her husband Bill of Texarkana, Texas; one brother, Dale and his wife Dorothy of Tyler, Texas; many wonderful nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Lewis and Dimma McMahen White; his first wife, Elizabeth Myers White; a brother, Alan and his wife CiI; a sister, Pearl Boyd; and a brother-in-law, Lynn Coe. Dr. White was born at McKamie, Ark., on the 11th day of June, 1926. Upon graduation from the University of Arkansas School of Medicine in Little Rock, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine Diploma, and after a rotating internship at Herman Hospital in Houston, he served his country in the U.S. Army as a Family Physician. After his discharge from the U.S. Army as a Captain, he was admitted as a Fellow of The American College of Anesthesiologists. He was certified as a specialist in Anesthesiology by The American Board of Anesthesiology. He served his residency at Baylor College of Medicine Hospital in Houston. He was a 50 year plus member of the Stamps Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, SJ, USA, and a member of the Arabia Temple Shrine. Until his decline due to Parkinson's disease, he was a member of the Staunton Rotary Club.    During the 40 years of practice of Anesthesiology at Bayshore Medical Center, he served the Federation of Medicine in many capacities. Past Chief of Staff and a member of the Board of Trustees of Bayshore Medical Center, Dr. White served as Chairman for the Texas Medical Society Board of Ethics. He was a Diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology and a delegate to the Texas Medical Association. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association and the Harris County Medical Society, where he was a past secretary and vice president. He twice served as president of the Southeast Branch of the Harris County Medical Society; he was a charter member and past president of the Texas Gulf Coast Anesthesia Society; he was a member of the Houston Surgical Society. Upon his retirement in 1994, he was elected by its House of Delegates to Honorary Membership in the Texas Medical Association. He has been honored with numerous other awards and fellowships in recognition of his service to medicine and his Texas community. The family thanks the doctors, nurses, family members, friends and neighbors who helped him during his long illness. Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family starting at 11 a.m. on Monday, the 23rd of May at the Waynesboro Church of Christ at 227 Bookerdale Road. A memorial service will begin at 12, noon with the Rev. David Washburn, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. A prayer and the eulogy will be given by Ralph Denney, Elder of Waynesboro Church of Christ. McDow Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
