John "Jimmy" Monroe Spann

John "Jimmy" Monroe Spann passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011. He was born on February 15, 1944 in Little Rock, Ark. to J.M. and Virginia Spann. He grew up in Little Rock where he graduated from Fuller High School and then obtained his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Henderson State. Later in his life, he served as a Deacon of Westover Hills Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, Ark. John spent most of his life as a salesman and was the owner of Central Chemical. In 2005, he closed the company and retired to do all of the activities he loved. From woodworking to gardening, reading to repairing almost anything, baking to volunteering, John sought to bring much joy and love to his family and friends that surrounded him each day. He saw each day in life as a new adventure whether it was flying kites with his grandchildren, discovering new local eateries with his wife, playing Santa Claus for the family at Christmas, or finding another hot sauce to add to his collection. John had a passion for peppers and hot sauce - the hotter, the better. His close friends and family knew that a bottle of hot sauce was always the best souvenir to bring him from their travels. John was often described as hard-headed yet tender-hearted and received the greatest joy from giving to others. His quick wit, generosity, and laughter will be missed by all who loved him, because John, like so many of his favorite hot sauces, added just the right amount of spice to life. He is survived by his loving wife Meredith John Spann of Little Rock, Ark.; one son, John M. Spann Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M.; one daughter, Judy Brimer; two grandchildren, Jeremiah John Blakesley and Jessica Christine Brimer; and one great-grandson, Matthew Justin Smith, all of Little Rock, Ark. John is also survived by two stepdaughters: Elizabeth Brown Williams, her husband Victor, and their sons Cody and Bentley, all of Little Rock, Ark., and Susan C. Brown of Memphis, Tenn. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Westover Hills Presbyterian Church located at 6400 Richard B. Hardie Drive in Little Rock. www.griffinleggetthealeyroth.com.
