Fred L. "Shots" Zakrzewski, Sr., 87, of North Little Rock passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011. He was born November 13, 1923 in North Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Stanislaus and Victoria Kaplon Zakrzewski. He was an optician with Cosgrove and Henry Eye Clinic that later became Little Rock Eye Clinic. He was a life member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, attended to St. Mary's School and was a graduate of Catholic High School. Fred was in the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II, where he served on an icebreaker on the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers, which is where he met his wife, June. Later in the war he served in the Pacific. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and an avid golfer and woodworker. He was a life time member of North Little Rock Boys and Girls Club where he was boy of the year in 1939. Shots led by example, a true patriarch of our family, his friendly personality and rough and tumble wit and sense of humor made him a friend of all he met. He is survived by his wife, June Houchens Zakrzewski; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne (Maxine) Zakrzewski, of Aubrey, Texas, Fred L. Jr. (Lalia) Zakrzewski, of Marche, David (Carla) Zakrzewski, of Little Rock, Stephen R. (Barbara) Zakrzewski, of Vilonia, Greg R. (Merry) Zakrzewski, of Little Rock, and Doug E. (Mary Jo) Zakrzewski, of Marche; grandchildren, Luke Zakrzewski, Dana (Kevin) Tucker, Suzie (Mark) Thompson, Clayton (Lezlie) Zakrzewski, Utaw Zakrzewski, Fred Louis Zakrzewski III, Jacob Zakrzewski, Jennifer McCarthy, Mellisa (Andrew) Bryan, Brad (Heather) Zakrzewski, Stephanie Zakrzewski and Max Zakrzewski; five great-grandchildren, Cordelia Tucker, Michael Pruss, Cara Pruss, Kyle Thompson and Brock McCarthy. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Zakrzewski and Frank "Shank" Zakrzewski; two sisters, Helen "Fatty" Zawislak and Louise "Tiny" Weed. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Central Arkansas Boys and Girls Club, 1616 West 3rd Street, Little Rock, Arkansas 72202. Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m., Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
