Eldridge William "Red" Alvey, age 79, passed away Tuesday May 24, 2011. He was born January 11, 1932 in Van Buren County, Arkansas, a son of the late William Clinton Alvey and Omie May Horness Alvey. He attended the Assembly of God Church. He began farming at a young age. Due to lack of work, he moved to Omaha Nebraska were he found work in a Bakery. After beginning a family, he moved back home to Morrilton and begin working for the City. This started his career in Land Excavating and Heavy Equipment Operations. After many years of experience, he landed a job as an instructor in 1978, at Petit Jean Vo-Technical School in Morrilton, where he taught Heavy Equipment for thirteen years. He retired in 1991. During his years of teaching, his students competed and received many first place awards. He loved his family, loved to tell stories, and loved to make people laugh. He was considered the rock of his family. He touched many lives and was loved by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Elmer Pruitt, Ben Alvey, Leon Alvey, Billy Alvey, one sister Mary Shewmake and two great-grandsons. Survivors include: One Sister: Lottie Baker of Hattieville. Four Sons: Terry (Debbie) Alvey; Gary (Jan) Alvey; Berry Don Alvey all of Morrilton; William (Gena) Alvey of Danville. Three Daughters: Karen Johnson of Conway; Sharon Stumbaugh and fiance' Doug Wilson of Morrilton; Lawanda Clay of Hot Springs; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers: Jeremy Johnson; Clint Alvey, Zachary Stumbaugh; Willie Alvey; Billy Alvey; Gary Junior Alvey. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Monday, May 30 at Bob Neal & Sons, Morrilton. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 31, at Bob Neal & Sons, Morrilton with Rev. Dan Baker officiating. Interment: Lost Corner Cemetery, Cleveland.
