Storm Hammond Whaley

Storm Hammond Whaley, a leading figure at the National Institutes of Health under five U.S. Presidents, and a former acting president of the University of Arkansas, has died at age 95. Whaley, who was also a well-known broadcaster in Arkansas in the 1930s and 1940s, died Sept. 18 in San Diego, California, where he and his wife of 75 years, Jane Bucy Whaley, moved in 2005. Born March 15, 1916, in Sulphur Springs, Ark., Whaley was the son of Storm Onus Whaley and Mabel Etta (Prater) Whaley. He is survived by his wife and his daughters, Carroll Jean Anderson and her husband Daniel Stonewall Anderson of San Diego; Ann Marie Whaley and her husband Stanley Phillip Adams of London, England; and Rebecca Glenn Whaley of Little Rock. In addition he is survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
