Merle Elloene Moore McBride, 90, was born April 28, 1921, in Bluff City, Ark. to William E. and Katie Moore. She died Sept. 14, 2011, in Camden, Ark. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 18. at the Bluff City Church of Christ, with burial in the Bluff City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, at Proctor Funeral Home in Camden. Mrs. McBride is survived by her son Doug and wife Sarah of Austin, Tex., by her daughter Norma of El Dorado, and by her sister-in-law Lila Franklin of Camden. She also is survived by five grandsons: Brandon McBride, wife Elizabeth, and children Emma, Charlie and Teddy, Arlington, Va.; Breck McBride and fiancé Meghan Laughlin, Lubbock, Texas; Brady McBride, wife Christine, son Cogan and daughter Paloma, Austin, Texas; Bradley McBride, Dallas, Texas and Yancey Kyle, wife Melissa, and children Amber, Justin, Michael and Tallis, El Dorado. She also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 66 years, Millard D McBride, her parents, her brothers Wilkie, Garland, Clyde and Herbert Moore and her sisters Lillie Crozier, Elsie Mae Dumas and Pearl Henson. Mrs. McBride was among the last living offspring of Civil War veterans. A devoted Christian, wife, mother and teacher, she earned her bachelor's degree from Southern State College and her master's from Auburn University. She taught in public schools for more than 40 years in Bluff City, Norphlet, McNeil, Chidester and in the Camden Fairview school system, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Bluff City Church of Christ. Her children express special gratitude to her devoted sister-in-law Lila, to the staff of Silver Oaks Health and Rehabilitation; to minister Jerry Berley and the members of the Bluff City Church of Christ for the special attention and exceptional care provided Mrs. McBride in her later years.
