Raymond (Ray) Record, 90, of Hot Springs Village, Ark. passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012. He was born June 13, 1922 in Paducah, Ky. to William Amos Record and Carra Jane Perry. A decorated World War II war veteran, Ray served in the USAFF from 7/14/41 to 12/23/45. He was a B-17 bomber pilot and completed 35 combat missions with the 92 Bombardment Group out of Poddington Field in the European Theater of Operations where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross. He finished the war flying Air Transport Command in the Pacific Theater of Operations. In 1945, he married the love of his life, Eloise Burgett of Camden, Ark. He worked for R. G. LeTourneau in Longview, Texas, for 35 years living at Elderville and Lake Cherokee. In 1884, he retired to Hot Springs Village, Ark. Ray could build and fix most anything. He loved hunting, fishing, and driving fast. In retirement, he was devoted to golf. He was known as a kind, loving, generous and considerate speed demon. He loved his wife, family, and people. Ray was predeceased by his beloved wife Eloise; his parents; step-daughter Priscilla Dean of Hot Springs, Ark.; son-in-law William E. Hataway of Carthage, Texas, brothers William Earl of Ft. Worth, Texas, Roy Bishop of Graves Co, Ky., and sister Mary Elta Mathis of Catalina, Calif. He is survived by step-daughter, Patricia Mae Hataway of Carthage, Texas; daughter, Rae Dell Record and husband Jerry L. Houghton of Sandwich, Mass.; and son, Charles Raymond Record of Palm Springs, Calif.; and brothers, Ivis Vernon and Marco Eldrige of Louisville, Ky. He is also survived by grandson, Christopher Bryan Nelms and wife Paula Melaine; three great-grandchildren, Grace Elaine Nelms, Noel Katherine Nelms and Dylan Thomas Birdsong, all of Rockwall, Texas. A memorial service will be held at Caruth Village Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m. followed by refreshments. Burial will be in the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock at 1 p.m. Online remembrances may be left at www.caruth-hale.com.
