Sue Machen Merritt

Sue Machen Merritt passed away on Monday, December 3, 2012. She was born October 2, 1911, in Earle, Arkansas. Sue has been a resident of Little Rock since 1955 and has resided at Presbyterian Village for the past 2½ years and was an avid bridge player. She was preceded in death by her husband, H.P. Merritt, Jr., her parents, L.J. Machen and Laura Dobson Machen, four brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her son, H. Prentice Merritt and wife Nancy Merritt; two granddaughters Deborah Sue Merritt of Cabot, Arkansas, and Laura Jane Merritt of Boise, Idaho; one great-grandson Dylan Rainey; one sister-in-law Virginia M. Machen of Little Rock and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Arkansas, (501) 224-8300, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m., with Reverend Jerry Collins of St. Paul United Methodist Church officiating. Also assisting in officiating will be Reverend Alex Lawson of French Camp, Mississippi. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Morrilton, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be her nephews, John Willcoxon, Hal Willcoxon, Jim Karrant, Lewis John Machen, Christopher Govers and longtime friend, Darren Reeves. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2223 Durwood Road, Little Rock, Arkansas 72207.
