Antoinette Chavey Davis

Antoinette Chavey Davis, age 89, born September 4, 1923 in Helena, Arkansas entered into eternal rest on December 4, 2012 at UAMS with her family by her side. She is preceded in death by her husband Eli S. Davis and her parents William C. and Antoinette P. Chavey. Miss Toni, as she was affectionately called, quietly and unselfishly spent her life serving others. She attended Sacred Heart Academy and Helena High School graduating high school in 1941. In Helena she was an active member of First United Methodist Church and as a young woman was involved in many of the areas civic and benevolent organizations. This beautiful lady came of age in the southern Delta during the Great Depression and as the United States entered into the Second World War. After graduating from high school and leaving Helena for business school in Memphis, Tennessee, she returned home and answered the call of the war effort, beginning work at the Aero Tech, a detachment of the U.S. Army Air Field in Phillips County, Arkansas. As a tireless volunteer, mentor, and inspiration to hundreds of young men, she served her beloved Boy Scouts of America for over 30 years. Because of her long career in Boy Scouts, she is among an elite group of lifetime scouts and the only female member of Troop 045 in Little Rock; she served on the committees of Troop and Pack 431 at Amboy United Methodist Church; and was the liaison for the church and the troop and pack Miss Toni was a loyal fan of the University of Arkansas Razorbacks and went to all the games in Little Rock and was a strong supporter whether they were winning or losing. She was also a member of the Acropolis Chapter of the Arkansas Business Women's Association and was once chosen as its woman of the year. She was one of the founding members of Amboy United Methodist Church and served as its choir director for 54 years. Survivors include daughter, Pamela Davis Lasiter and her husband, Tommy of North Little Rock; grandson, Ryan Lasiter of Little Rock; granddaughter, Allison Hester and her husband, Stephen and her great-grandchildren, Thomas Hester and Anne Elizabeth Hester of Little Rock. Other survivors are cousins, Al Mays (Brenda) of Springdale, Arkansas, Carolyn Ross of Houston, Texas, Diane Jones (Tom) of Irving Texas, and Jan Capps of Jackson, Tennessee. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 7, 2012 and funeral will follow at 11: a.m. at Amboy United Methodist Church in North Little Rock. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Maple Hill Cemetery in Helena, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be Tommy Lasiter, Ryan Lasiter, Stephen Hester, Al Mays, Tom Jones, and Terry Holley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Troop and Pack 431 of Amboy United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Amboy United Methodist Church Choir Fund, Boy Scouts of America, and the World War II Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana.
