Charles Edward Clinehens Sr.

Charles Edward Clinehens Sr., 98, of Fayetteville passed away Dec. 6, 2012 at Willard Walker Hospice. He was born Oct. 14, 1914 in Fort Smith, Ark., the son of Rolla Sr. and Mable Dykeman Clinehens. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marietta Clinehens Hulse; and his brothers, Rolla Clinehens Jr., Harold Clinehens Sr. and Pearl Clinehens. He graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1932, attended the University of Arkansas, studying pre-med from 1932-1934, and was a graduate of the Capitol College of Pharmacy and Science in Denver, Colo. in 1937. He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a pharmacist mate on a yard mine sweeper in the Pacific theatre. He was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville where he was a deacon and an elder and served on the building committee. He owned and operated Clinehens Fayetteville Drug on the square with his father and brothers from 1926 until 1985. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Washington Lodge No. 1. He served on the founding board of directors for the Elizabeth Richardson Center. Above all else, he was a family man, devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren. Charles was a gentle man, adored for his sense of humor, kindness and loving nature. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy; a daughter, Dorothy Clinehens Cassat and husband Charles Cassat Sr., of Fayetteville; a son, Charles Edward Jr. and wife Jeanie of Fayetteville; son-in-law, Danny Hulse of Wheeler; six grandchildren, Stacie Cassat Green and husband Jon Green of Harvard, Mass., Chuck Cassat and wife Darlene Cassat of Fayetteville, Chad Clinehens and wife Jennifer Clinehens of Maumelle, Olivia Clinehens Witherspoon and husband Scott Witherspoon of Ft. Worth, Texas, Kimberly Clinehens of Fayetteville, Elizabeth Hulse of Fayetteville; and eight great-grandchildren, Jasper Green and Milo Green, Cody Cassat and Emily Cassat, Lauren Clinehens and Lillian Clinehens, and Samuel Witherspoon and Caleb Witherspoon. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at Moore's Funeral Chapel in Fayetteville. Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at First United Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Gardens under the direction of Moore's Chapel.
