Joseph Guyten Vincent

Joseph Guyten Vincent, 89, passed away Oct. 28, 2012 at home in Melbourne, Fla. with his family at his bedside. He was a very special husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Mary, of 69 years; son, Randolph and wife Cheri; son, Scott and his wife, Deborah; granddaughter, Holeigh; niece, Janette and her husband Ed; and nephew, James Rummage. Born Dec. 5, 1922 to Joseph Hurbert Vincent and Emma Avent Vincent in Hickory Valley, Tenn. He graduated from Bolivar High School, Bolivar Tenn., in 1941. Married Mary (Polly) H. Tillman in 1942 and started a family in 1953 with the births of son Randolph and Scott in 1955. He joined the army in 1943 and served in the Pacific theatre in an arterial battalion During World War II. After the war , he attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Okla. His 30-year career as a flight engineer included flying Martins and Constellations for TWA and Boeing 720s. He delivered the first jet to Saudi Arabian Airlines in 1961. He stayed and trained flight crews on 720, 707, and L1011 aircraft. After 20 years in the Middle East he retired in 1981 with wife Polly to Heber Springs, Ark. They built a home on Eden Isle where they lived for 23 years. He enjoyed boating, fishing and golf. Joe and Polly moved to Melbourne, Fla. in 2004 for the warm weather and to be close to family. There will be a gravesite service at a later date in Bolivar, Tenn. where he grew up. He will be loved and missed so very much.
