Martin Holmes

Martin Holmes, 87, died Nov. 25 in Modesto, Calif. He was born in Pine Bluff to a large family and grew up in Cotter. After Naval service in World War II, he graduated from the University of Arkansas, then began working at the Arkansas Democrat as sports writer and news editor. In 1968 the family moved to California where he became a staff member of the Modesto Bee. He is survived by his widow, the former Rebe Walker and their children Walter and Rebecca.
