Claudia Brooks Scifres, age 99, died on January 12, 2012 in Houston, Texas. One of nine children, she was born in Fountain Hill, Arkansas, on November 6, 1912 to Jessie Griffin Brooks and Richard Lorenzo Brooks. She was valedictorian of her senior class and attended Arkansas A&M and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, receiving both Bachelors and Masters Degrees. She taught many years at Kramer School in the Little Rock Public School System. Recognized as an outstanding educator, she particularly enjoyed her contribution to the Kramer project headed by Dr. Betty Caldwell. Claudia was a long time member of First Baptist Church and was involved in all aspects of church ministry. She served as President of WMU, volunteered in Vacation Bible School, and enjoyed the senior activities in her later years. She loved the Lord and the Church more than words can express. Claudia was a devoted mother and grandmother, a loving wife, and a caring sister. Family and home were her greatest joys. Scifres of Little Rock; grandson Hal Nuckols and wife Kimberly of Atlanta, Georgia; four great-grandchildren: Anna, Brooks, Katharine, and Caroline; one sister, Vera Brooks Hoffman; one sister-in-law, Ressie Croxton Scifres; and many nieces and nephews. Sandra and Richard wish to thank Liz Howe and the staff at Southern Knights Assisted Living Center and Sunset Hospice, Tomball, Texas, for providing the loving care our mother received. We could not have asked for more. A memorial service at First Baptist Church will be held on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 1 p.m. A private burial will precede the memorial service.
