Freda Bradley

Freda M. Bradley, 79, of Fayetteville died Wednesday January 18, 2012 at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. She was born in Oklahoma City on September 4, 1932, the daughter of Tracy P. Matthews and Omie Addington Matthews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a step-brother, John Hobbs. Freda is survived by her husband of 52 years, George A. Bradley; son Steven and wife Kathy of Springdale; and daughter Susan Pospisil of Coppell, Texas. She is survived by grandsons Matthew, Kevin, and Blake Bradley of Springdale and by a granddaughter, Cassidy Pospisil of Coppell, Texas. A step-sister , Emily Wolf of East Lansing, Michigan also survives. Freda attended public school in Amity, Arkansas and graduated from Amity High School in 1950. She received a B. Ed. in music education in 1954, with a major in piano from Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) in Conway, Arkansas. She was awarded her M. Ed. in Elementary Education from the University of Arkansas in 1960. She taught elementary music in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma from 1954 to 1956. From 1956 until 1959 she taught music for the elementary, junior high, and high school at Bauxite, Arkansas. She taught 4th grade at Greenland in 1959 and 1960. From 1965 until 1988 Freda taught music at Washington Elementary School in Fayetteville. Freda loved teaching music, especially to elementary students. She was elected to Delta Kappa Gamma honorary teachers association in 1959 and served as president of the Fayetteville chapter. Freda joined the Amity United Methodist Church in 1944 and often played the piano at services. After marrying George, the love of her life, in 1959, she joined Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville in 1960. She and George have been faithful members since then. Freda taught Sunday School and served on many committees and the Administrative Board. She sang in the church choir and the Senior Saints choir. She has been a member of the Asbury Sunday School Class for many years and also the United Methodist Women's group. A commitment service will be held at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, followed by a memorial service at 10 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville under the direction of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home.
