Walter Grainger

Walter Grainger Col. (Ret.), 93, of Little Rock passed away peacefully on Jan. 19, 2012. He was born Aug. 22, 1918 in Mt. Vernon, N.Y. to Walter and Stella Grainger. Mr. Grainger was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Maxie. He was also pre-deceased by his brother David Grainger and sisters Elvira Richardson and Janet Simonds. Col. Grainger served in the Army in WWII in the Pacific theater. Training brought him to Little Rock where he met Maxine Bryd, his future wife. After the war, Col. Grainger became a true Southerner by marrying and moving to Little Rock. He served 30 years in the Arkansas National Guard. He truly enjoyed his time with the Guard. He is survived by two loving daughters: Janet Grainger Friday and Mary Eileen Tschura (Jerry), and step grandchild: John Tschura. Also surviving are the following devoted and loved nieces and nephews: Patricia Rentz, Ray Simonds (Terry), Robert Richardson (Elaine), Sue Laverriere (Deek), Andrew Grainger (Sheryl), Bradley Grainger (Mary), Bob Sparks (Sandy), George Ed Sparks, Linda Smith (David), and Carol Burt (Charles). He was blessed with 16 great-nieces and -nephews who gave him great joy and delight along with one amazing grand-nephew. Also surviving is James Baia, a devoted cousin. Col. Grainger led his life based upon his Christian principles of love and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pulaski County Humane Society, 14600 Col.
