James Maxie Medders

James Maxie Medders, age 78 of Crossett, Ark. passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012 in Madison, Miss. Mr. Medders was born to the late James and Lela Mae Medders on August 10, 1934 in Merigold, Miss, and was a 1952 graduate of Shaw Mississippi High School. He then served in the US Army in post war WWII operations in France and Germany, the US Air Force and the National Guard. After the military service, he received his B.S. degree from Delta State University, and a Masters Degree in Biology from the University of Mississippi in Oxford. He then served as a Science Teacher in the Dermott Public School System until coming to Crossett in 1969. Mr. Medders was with the Crossett Public Schools until his retirement in 1990. He was also an active member of the First Baptist Church of Crossett for 43 years where he enjoyed singing in the Golden Voices Choir; he was a member of SVS Hunting Club and a retired farmer. Mr. Medders was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Lou Johnson Medders. Survivors include two sons, James Maxie Medders Jr. (Karen) of Monticello, Ark. and Keith Medders (Rosie) of Madison, Miss.; two daughters, Renee Medders Henderson (Bill) of Alexandria, La. and Malinda Medders Raley (Brian) of Owasso, Okla.; one sister, Billie Faye Peeples (Bobby) of Shaw, Miss.; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Branning of Cleveland, Miss.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Crossett with Bro. Jamie Staley officiating. Interment will follow at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett, Ark.. (www.jonesservice.com). Visitation will be held from 6-9-p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Keith Medders, Maxie Medders, Chris Kleinhofs, Joe Reed, Russell Peeples and Mike Chisholm. Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Mens Sunday School Class.
