JOHN HITE McKAY JR., 84, of Jacksonville died Friday, Jan. 27, 2012. He was born Sept. 11, 1927 in Nady to the late John Hite McKay Sr. and Blanche Wallace McKay. Mr. McKay enlisted in the Navy and then the Air Force where he served in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Air Force Commendation Medal, retiring after 20 years. He served as an associate pastor in charge of outreach and visitation and was an adult Sunday school teacher for McArthur Assembly of God for over 20 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Beard; a grandson, Ronnie Woodall Jr., and 11 brothers and sisters. Mr. McKay is survived by his wife of 53 years, Earlene Brickell McKay; three children, Ronnie Woodall (Susie Rowland) of Benton, Bonnie Peoples (Bill) of Hot Springs Village and Angela McKay Jones (Tom) of Batesville; one sister, Irene Fetty of Seven Points, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Reba Beard as well as six grandchildren, Ginger Beard Martin, Renee Glover, Stephanie Skowfoe, William Peoples Jr., Hannah Jones and Sarah Jones and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday Jan. 30, 2012 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at McArthur Assembly of God with Pastors Marc Bateman, Larry Burton and Tom Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Bayou Meto Cemetery under the direction of Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home (501)982-2136.
