James F. Longacre
James F. Longacre, age 73, of Pine Bluff, died at his home, Thursday, May 3, 2012. Mr. Longacre was born September 26, 1938, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, a son of the late Hubert Ferrell and Nan Fay Scott Longacre.
Mr. Longacre was reared and educated in Pine Bluff and was a graduate of Pine Bluff High School. He attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello for one year before joining the U S Navy. Upon returning from the Navy, he began working for the Cotton Belt Railroad (now Southern Pacific Railroad) and worked there forty one years, retiring in 2001.
He was a member of Watson Chapel Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, singing in the choir and was in charge of the Men's Breakfast at the church. He was predeceased by a step daughter, Kerrie Lynn Tucker.
Mr. Longacre is survived by his wife of forty years, Nancy Lee Kelly Carter Longacre; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Frank Shomaker of Lubbock, Texas, Penny and Brad Cummings of St. Charles; sister and brother-in-law, Mickie and Danny Smith of Sheridan; step-daughter, Kellie Warren of Montgomery, Alabama; step-sons, Tony E. Carter and wife, Vickie, and Timothy Carter, all of Maumelle, son-in-law, Richard Tucker of Star City; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 7, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Watson Chapel Baptist Church by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Reverend Todd Howard and Reverend Steve Monk officiating. Burial will be in Cypress Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Robinson's Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m.
