Leona L. Byrd, 85, of Conway was escorted into the presence of Jesus May 7, 2012 having run the race and completed the course. She was born September 24, 1926 in Wooster, Arkansas the daughter of Jonah and Wilma Herrelston King. She married Herbert T. Byrd in 1943 and he preceded her in death in 2005 after 63 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers, two sisters, two grandchildren and her dog Bullet. A member of Old Liberty Baptist Church, Leona was born with a servant's heart and spent her entire lifetime serving her Lord. She loved to cook meals for those in need and taught ladies Sunday school classes for over 50 years. An avid quilter, she was a self-taught seamstress. Survivors are her two sons, Wesley (Carolyn) Byrd and Paul (Grace) Byrd, and her daughter, Beverly (Doug) Price, all of Conway and who all loved her dearly; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, special niece Carolyn Fiddler and sister-in-law, Louise King and other nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Funeral Home, 1751 Dave Ward Drive, Conway (501) 327-5000 with Rev. Mike Lefler officiating. Interment will follow at Thorn Cemetery at Greenbrier. Memorials may be made to Bread of Life Food Pantry, c/of Central Baptist Church, 3333 Dave Ward Drive, Conway, Ark. 72034.
