William Dee Sloan

William Dee Sloan, (U.S. Army, Retired), age 78, of Rose Bud, Arkansas, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012, at the White County Medical Center in Searcy. Born in Vernon, Texas, on October 29, 1933, he was the son of the late Clyde Calvin and Opal Elizabeth (McDaniel) Sloan. Mr. Sloan proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring as a Command Sergeant Major in 1988. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for his military service. Mr. Sloan was a member of the Heber Springs Church of Christ. Family members who preceded him in death include his parents and one brother, Arvel Jay Sloan. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Viola Reynolds Sloan; one son, John William Sloan of Benton; five daughters, Cheryl Rose Sloan , Lisa Renee Sloan, and Susan Rachel Sloan, all of Rose Bud, Debra Ruth Sloan of Bryant, and Juanita Elizabeth Fouss of Smyrna, Tennessee; two brothers, Jerry Paul Sloan and James Earl Sloan, both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and five grandchildren, Savannah Leigh Sloan, Olivia Leigh Sloan, Erin Elizabeth Fouss Jeremy Evan Fouss, and Emily Grace Fouss. Mr. Sloan is also survived by other relatives and his many friends. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 15, from 6-8 p.m. at the Heber Springs Church of Christ. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, May 16, at 10 a.m. at the Heber Springs Church of Christ with Lance Mays officiating. Interment with military honors will be held Thursday, May 17, at 11 a.m. at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home. www.olmstead.cc.
